Farm Gardens

Some folks think of farms as having big fields of row crops, and of course many farms have exactly that. But some farms still also have the traditional family garden for household food production. We believe that to be a critical part of our own farming activities, and our garden plays a big role in our farm plan.

While our garden is for household use only, we think it's so important that we've launched another website to teach people how to grow their own food. We talk about our growing experiences, our experiments with different growing sytems, our successes and failures, and all the different ways people just like you can start growing at least some of their own food.

We invite you to visit that other website at: www.grow-food-at-home.com

Ongoing Experiments

For the 2009 growing season, we used a combination of several different growing methods - raised garden beds, double-digging and lasagna gardening - to create 5x20 planting beds. We also used square-foot planting methods within those raised beds to give us a nice diversity of produce.

We hope to post pictures later in the year to show what the beds look like when fully populated with plants. Check back here to see our garden grow! In the meantime, you may want to visit our gardening methods page.

Your Own Garden?

As we finish moving our website over to our new hosting service, we'll begin adding more sections to the website. One of those sections will be books that we have found valuable, grouped by topic.

Check back here soon to see a list of gardening books that we have used, and continue to use every day. We wouldn't grow our gardens without them and we think you'll find them helpful too.
