Oberhasli and Saanen Goats

We have both Oberhasli and Saanen dairy goats. Both breeds originated in Switzerland, and both breeds are good dairy performers. The Saanens are known as the goat version of the Freisian-Holstein dairy cow, providing amazing amounts of milk per lactation. The Oberhasli goats are also good dairy goats but they are much better known as excellent pack goats, and of course goats of any breed make excellent land-clearers.. We are thrilled to have goats on the farm, working in all those capacities.

Goats on the Job at Frog Chorus Farm

Our goats don't just give us milk and young stock for sale. They have an even more important job here on the farm - clearing our brushy forestlands. If you have lands overrun with weedy growth, brambles, or pioneer forest species, click here to see how we're using our goats to clear our land and get it ready for other uses. The very best part? They love their job!

Goats for Sale

We are sold out for the 2011 kidding season.

Goat Milk and Dairy Production

After much research, conversation with various state agencies, consideration of markets and good ol' soul searching, we are thrilled to announce our plans to become licensed as a micro-dairy. We are working out plans now and we hope to be licensed before the end of the 2008 milking season. Our plans tentatively include both goat and cow milk sales, but down the road we plan to offer other dairy products such as fresh and aged cheese, butter, yogurt and kefir.

If you would like to be updated when our dairy is operational, please contact us via our contact form and let us know which product(s) you are interested in. We will let you know as soon as we have products available.

Pack Goats and Goat Harness

If you are interested in these topics, we encourage you to check the following links for more information:

Edelweiss Acres
This goat farm, managed by Steve and Donna Semasko, is a treasure trove of information about Oberhaslis as a breed, and packgoats as a recreational pursuit. We have purchased several does and a buck from their farm, and we've been delighted with their performance. We can't recommend them highly enough!

Aspiring Midwives Farm
This is a website offering some information about equipping, training, and using your goat as a lightweight draft animal. Additional links are given at the bottom, for more information, equipment, training etc. We fully support the return of animal power to the farm; draft animals can bring diversity, craftsmanship and cost effectiveness to a farm's many needs for applied power. The pricetag for those gifts are to learn how to harness our animals safely, efficiently and humanely. This website will start you on the road towards a wonderful partnership with your goats. As we learn more about this aspect of goat husbandry, we'll share our findings.

Weblog Archives

We are still building out this new blog archiving system, so please be patient with us as we do so. We think you'll be pleased with the results.

In the meantime, feel free to look through our current and past blog entries while they're still on monthly pages. Check back soon and we'll hopefully have them all sorted quickly. Thank you for your patience.
