Sheep

We added Shetland sheep to our farm operation some yearas ago, and we've been delighted with them. They are a smaller, heritage sheep breed, featuring exquisitely fine wool, tasty meat and surprisingly good dairy production. They are also one of the so-called short-tail sheep, which do not require tail docking. All told, they've been very easy to maintain and work with.

We may add additional breeds of sheep to our operation as time goes by, and as we expand our lamb, dairy, and/or wool production goals. In the meantime, we will continue to expand our sheep web pages, to cover topics of interest to other sheep owners and enthusiasts. We invite you to peruse our pages, and we hope you enjoy your visit!

Wool Sales
Not only are we growing wool for sale in 2010, we have a wide network of friends and farming colleagues who raise sheep and other wool-bearing animals. They provide a wide range of products for your wool needs:

* Raw fleeces

* Roving and batts in all the colors of the rainbow

* Yarns suitable for knitting, crocheting, lace and and weaving

* Various craft kits and patterns

Fiber Processing Services
If you raise sheep or fiber animals and would like information on various aspects of processing, we can help you with:

* shearing

* carding

* roving or batt processing

* high volume fleece processing

If we don't know someone doing that work, we know someone who will.

If you would like more information about all that is available, please let us know and we can hook you up with the right people.

Sheep Books
Sheep have been domesticated for a very long time, and many books have been written about sheep care, sheep management, sheep feeding, sheep diseases, and small scale flocks kept for meat, dairy and/or wool production. We have read a lot of these sheep books, and we've offered the very best of the batch on our Sheep Books page. If you are getting started with sheep, or if you have had sheep for many years and need to get some new ideas on feeding, housing, breeding, or any other sheep topic, we invite you to browse this collection. You'll find some good answers!

Weblog Archives

We are still building out this new blog archiving system, so please be patient with us as we do so. We think you'll be pleased with the results.

In the meantime, feel free to look through our current and past blog entries while they're still on monthly pages. Check back soon and we'll hopefully have them all sorted quickly. Thank you for your patience.
